PP Power Rankings – Summer 2015 Week 11

After a few weeks of delayed rankings, here we are back on track again. I, for one, am really pleased that a certain show is finally out of the top five, though it tried it’s best to sneak back in this week. Curse you, all of you, who don’t seem seem to be watching anything other than that. One ballot literally stated: “I’m trying to remember what happened in Monster Musume this week, but since it’s the only thing I’ve watched, give it 3 points” … Riiight.

  1. Non Non Biyori Repeat
  2. Gakkou Gurashi!
  3. Gatchaman Crowds insight
  4. Baby Steps 2 (tied)
  5. Charlotte (tied)

You can click on the graph above for a closer, and slightly more interactive, look at this seasons trends. Read on for the detailed stats.

Ore Monogatari had a week off, and will end next week. Baby Steps 2 had its final episode this week, and finishes the season with a normalized score of 1.01 / 5 .. I’m just glad it managed to break past 1.0, since I think there are only a couple of us actually watching the show. If you like sports anime, wait, let me rephrase that, if you like REALISTIC sports anime with believable plot and character progression, then do not miss this anime. It’s very good, slightly let down by it’s animation quality. I personally gave it an 8/10.

The shows at very top have been quite consistent for the last three weeks, but looking at the graph, Gakkou Gurashi certainly had a strong dip a couple of episodes ago – that would be the pool (water tank?) episode. It more than made up for it after that, and now all hangs in the balance for the final episode this week. Will it overtake Non Non Biyori – Repeat, or is it just a little too late now? Gatchaman Crowds insight is also climbing steadily, but unless one of the top two really falter, I don’t think it’s going to end the season any higher than #3 for this blog.

Non Non Biyori – Repeat probably has the easiest task, even though it’s currently at #1. The show is so well defined that I have a hard time visualizing a bad episode from it this season. If it keeps doing what it’s been doing, it’s going to get the same amount of support, and that should be enough for it to end as this season’s best show. Not that the contest with Gakkou Gurashi! is over yet. I’m just implying that the chances of Gakkou Gurashi! messing up it’s finale is much higher than Non Non Biyori. On the flip side, it could also have an awesome finale, who knows… We’ll find out next week.

It’s unfortunate but looks inevitable that Monster Musume is going to crawl back into the top 5 next week since Baby Steps 2 will vacate it’s position. People at this blog aren’t watching enough good anime! Here I am, enjoying Jitsu wa Watashi wa, but not ever believing I need to waste points on it when there are better shows airing. But if you made me choose, I’d choose Jitsu wa Watashi wa without question over the horror that is Monster Musume. Teekyu should be higher than Monster Musume. Why aren’t people voting for Teekyu?!

Classroom Crisis needs to be singled out for analysis too. It started off as #1 many times earlier this season, with almost unwavering support from some voters. However, in the previous fortnight, it has plunged down the rankings and is now out of the top 10. I’m not sure what happened there, since I never thought the show was all that great anyway, and I still think it’s mediocre, but clearly it stopped doing something right (I don’t even know what it was doing right in the first place). Honestly, it probably deserves to be in the middle of the pack anyway.

Charlotte has clambered back into the top 5, perhaps at the expense of Classroom Crisis, but is still wavering. With just one episode to go, this is another show that seems to have lost it’s way for the most part. Maybe it needed more episodes, maybe it needed better build ups, maybe it needed more fleshed out characters… Too many pieces didn’t fit in this jigsaw puzzle. I’m a little disappointed, though not as much as I was maybe half way through it. Another show that needs a convincing final episode that I don’t think it can deliver. But let’s see.

I guess I’ll end this post by mentioning that we actually got a new entrant this week: Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz! .. Yes, some people are actually watching that show. Let’s see if stays up next week!

One Response to PP Power Rankings – Summer 2015 Week 11

  1. Dene323 says:

Ironically Classroom Crisis just delivered 3 highly engaging episodes in a row, a drastic improvement from the slow start. Interesting to observe the reversed effect in the PP Ranking. I think it’s just fatigue – people who were interested in this show despite the slow start eventually lost interest by the middle episodes.

Overall, I consider it an interesting show that has its faults in pacing but ultimately, well written and emotionally grounded in spite of its half-baked sci-fi background.
