PP Power Rankings – Spring 2015 Week 06

As we reach more or less the half way point, it’s time to start visualizing how this season is currently playing out. First of all, here’s the top five for this week:

1. Hibike! Euphonium
2. Ore Monogatari!!
3. Show By Rock!!
4. Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic
5. Baby Steps 2

And here’s the trend graph for this season:

Other than the peerless drop finally seen in the form of Plastic Memories in the graph above (you can click on it for a closer look), there isn’t much changing week after week this season. Hibike Euphonium is solidifying it’s position as #1 for now, Ore Monogatari has a bit of a buffer, and nothing’s really changed even further down the pack.

We don’t seem to be very enthusiastic about Kekkai Sensen, which is doing really well in the general APR (which no longer seems to be out on time on Sunday nights, so I’m comparing this to last week’s results). Hibike Euphonium seems to be more universally appealing, and that can be seen here too. I’m definitely enjoying it. As a sports anime fan, Baby Steps is checking all the right boxes at the moment with no fear of it devolving into  a shounen trope-full show, so that’s great too. In fact, I’m getting unexpected pleasure of some sports anime tropes in Hibike Euphonium, and I love it (Kelloggs disagrees, but he seems incapable of appreciating what can make sports anime great, much like how I’m incapable of appreciating how yuri can improve a show).

Hmm, there’s not much to say, every show seems to have had very predictable episodes, and I surprising don’t feel like complaining about any of them. I suppose Yamada-kun finally broached the subject of “witches”, and Bell-kun finally has someone in his party to raid with in DanMachi. Teekyu is still as Teekyu as it’s ever been (this adjective is defined differently by different people). I could complain about Plastic Memories or Fate/Stay Night, but if I’m perfectly honest, both of those shows also had unsurprising episodes. Doesn’t make them any good, but if it’s not unexpected, then who am I to complain about them being Teeky- <ahem> bad.

Well, at least you get a nice graph to look at this week, better than last week right? Who knows what sort of treat there is in store next week?
