A new season begins, and with that we get back to what we do best – disagreeing with each other, and the general APR. Well I know one show that I’m definitely not going to be watching any more of – PumpkinMochi and I syncplayed episode 2 of Re-Kan! and we were about seven minutes in when we both started commenting on how this seemed like the longest seven minutes of our lives. If you want to watch a show about a girl who can see ghosts, go with Kyoukai no Rinne. Even if that’s mediocre, at least you get the nostalgic art style of the 90s from Takahashi Rumiko. Re-Kan! just never ends.

This season appears to be stronger (expectedly) than the last one right off the bat. From Plastic Memories, Hibike! Euphonium, and Ore Monogatari, to the insane profit making Teekyuu (I mean it even has a spinoff now, it can’t possibly have not been successful), we have a good variety. I’m glad to have more Baby Steps, and Kiniro Mosaic. Kekkai Sensen is rather popular. And then we have Fate/Stay Night, which is still telling the story of the wrong arc (I’ll never stop complaining about how it should be Heaven’s Feel), but we get to see top notch animation. Ufotable makes incredible clouds.

At the other end of the spectrum, we experimented with Shokugeki no Souma and Triage X (you can read about this one). I really hope I never have to suffer through those shows again, thanks. As for Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka? (DanMachi), while it may look like we dropped it after one episode, we actually have watched more. Apparently Hestia, and Loki, are capable of driving us nuts. Our Skype group call topic went from “Return of the Boobstring” to “HESTIA SUX, LOKI WAS HERE”. Yeah, we have issues.

Not too many comments from the others this week. Boundless says:

“Personally I found the first season of Kiniro Mosaic very cute and endearing, but I never felt its comedy stood out from its genre peers. This season, however, started with a bang and had me laughing the most of any premiere so far. The jokes were snappy and crisp, and played the established characters off each other to great effect. I couldn’t stop laughing when I noticed Shino subtly appear in the middle of the frame even before the other characters reacted. A very strong start Kiniro, keep it up.”

Shinzenn is rather reserved about the season, saying:

“I’d say the season has only a couple shows that seem solid, and a lot of  promising ones that I hope hold up.”

I’m a bit more optimistic, but mainly because last season didn’t really appeal to me at all. If Shirobako and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso had not had the strong endings they had, I’d not bother with any of the shows. And those were actually Fall 2014 shows.

But no more looking back, let us where we go from here…
