First Impressions: Servant x Service

Unlike that other show with an x in its name, this is not a show about tsundere master-servant relationships.

No, Servant x Service is a completely wholesome show about three newly inducted civil servants working in a government ward office, handling health welfare. Our colourful cast include, Hasebe Yutaka, an overqualified, talented but lazy lecher, Yamagami Lucy Kimiko Akie Airi Shiori Rinne Yoshiho Ayano Tomika [abbr.], who is bent on revenge against civil servants who allowed her parents to give her an overly long name, Miyoshi Saya, a shy girl with a propensity to getting endlessly blabbered at by little old ladies, as well as their quirky co-workers. The show largely consists of plotless, one-off 4koma style comedy, which, considering that a 4koma by the same author as Working! (A show that I have never watched, but imagine to be very much like this one) is precisely what it is adapted from, comes as no surprise. To compensate for the relative dullness of the actual public service sector, most of the humour in this series are based on the far more interesting characters, with the occasional, very light jab at government worker inefficiencies.

If the likes of Yamagami worked at DMV, I wouldn’t get so mad at them every time I have to go there.

Overall, the light-hearted humour, fluid animation and good comic timing makes for an enjoyable show to watch.
